Meet Dana and Walter from Oklahoma. Walter’s wife of forty years passed away and he was blessed to find love again in Dana. The couple wanted to keep it simple and true to their adventurous spirit.
They chose to elope to Sedona. Hitting the spectacular red rocks wasn’t adventurous enough, though. They wanted to add some pink to their day.
A Pink Jeep Tour Elopement

Dana and Walter wanted to add a little extra something to their day. And what could be more special than a private tour around the beautiful red rocks to celebrate beginning their new life together as man and wife?

The Red Rocks Glow
The famous Red Rocks are made of red sandstone formations. They change color as the sun changes its position in the sky. They can look bright red in the middle of the day, a bright orange about an hour before sunset and the purple hues come out at dusk.
As a photographer that specializes in engagement and elopement sessions, I never tire of staging a photo with the breathtaking backdrops that Sedona has to offer. There is nothing quite like it anywhere else in the world.
A Good Black and White Photo Speaks Volumes
Yes, the Red Rocks are spectacular in all their color. But a good black and white photo captures the soul of the subject. The timelessness of a good black and white holds a magic that is hard to capture in color.
Just look at these images of Dana and Walter. Their relationship and love become the focus – you can feel their emotion. It captures the true essence of that moment in time.
See for yourself.
Sunsets in Sedona are Magical
Did you know Sedona is ranked as one of the best places to see a sunset by Travel & Leisure magazine? In the world!
Travel & Leisure says:
“Watching the sunset can be a near-spiritual experience in the raw beauty of Sedona, where the desert meets the mountains. Sedona is known for its famous red rock buttes, and the sun’s setting rays make the vibrant colors of the landscape glow against the deepening blue of the desert sky.”
I’m not sure I could have said it better myself. I love late afternoon hikes that end as the sun is setting behind some of the stunning formations like Cathedral Rock or Courthouse Butte.
It also happens to be one of my favorite things to photograph. I’m glad my afternoon with Dana and Walter ended with the glow of the sun as it set on the red rocks followed by a beautiful, tranquil dusk.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Dana and Walter. I’m honored to be a small part of their special day.
Dana and Walter, may you enjoy each other and the beautiful images from your special day for years to come. ~Melissa

Megan and Ryan choose the elegant Amara Resort Spa and Resort in breathtaking Sedona, Arizona as the site for their intimate wedding. Surrounded by their family and friends, on the bank of Oak Creek, the two sealed their vows. Little Rylie, the couple’s daughter, served as the flower girl, and the couple’s son, adorable 5 month old Beau, was the ring-bearer. Megan looked stunning in her gown from Nordstrom and her hair and makeup (Patricia Vega at Le Petit Spa de Sedona) was perfection. Megan finished her rustic chic looked by donning a special pair of cowboy boots and carrying gorgeous flowers from Bliss Extraordinary Floral; she was so beautiful! Ryan’s college friend, Steve, who became an officiant just for his friend’s wedding, gave a heart felt ceremony and all of us were laughing and crying. Megan and Ryan were adorable together and Ryan had a special way to make Megan laugh at just the right moment! Congrats you two and we wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!

Gold aspen leaves are what define fall in Flagstaff. A couple of weeks ago we met up with the Gross family on a brisk but beautiful fall morning at Aspen Corner. One of the best parts of our job is that we get to watch families come together and grow. Melissa photographed Lauren and Justin for their engagement in fall of 2009. About six months ago we were honored to photograph their newborn, precious baby Kendal. After creating a relationship with our clients we are always happy to see them again. So we were especially excited to see this family for their family holiday portraits. It is amazing how much babies grow in six months! Kendal is such a little lady, with the cutest personality. Kendal’s room is decorated in yellow and grey and has been a consistent theme in her photographs. We just adored Kendal’s yellow corduroy shorts, I kinda want a pair:) Myra, the families sweet boxer, really appreciated that we were outside instead of our studio this time. She loved racing around, finding sticks, and looking for birds. Lauren, Justin, Kendal and Myra, we always enjoy seeing you and catching up on your life. Thank you for being wonderful clients! We can’t wait until Kendal’s 1st birthday! ~Kristen
Dene’ and Levi have a lot to celebrate! This sweet young couple graduated from Northern Arizona University on Friday and got married on Sunday. Their beautiful and intimate ceremony was held at Thornager’s on Kiltie Lane. Thornager’s was a perfect spot for them to set up games and enjoy the outdoors with their family and friends. Dene’ added a lot of personal touches to make the wedding have a relaxed and fun feel. They even enlisted their guests to make a light saber arch while they exited the ceremony to the Star Wars theme song. Congratulations to the beautiful couple!
