FAQ: Maternity and Newborns
Maternity and Newborn Photography
Frequently Asked Questions
When should I schedule a maternity session?
I recommend between 32 and 34 weeks.
Do you do maternity photos inside at your studio or outside in a natural setting?
Both locations offer very unique looks and our clients choose the location they feel most comfortable in. Some clients opt to use both the studio and a natural setting for an additional fee.
What should I wear?
Ultimately, we want you to feel beautiful in your maternity photos. Wear a color that people tell you look beautiful in. Draping fabric dresses are beautiful on the expecting mom as tight, clinging fabrics too. Check out my Pinterest Board for more inspiration on your outfits.
How much are Maternity and Newborn Sessions and what do they include?
My packages vary depending on length and location. I also offer archival quality prints, canvases, birth announcements and albums from our studio. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for a detailed package list.
Do you offer combo packages for Maternity and Newborns?
Yes. I offer multiple sessions which are discounted and are an incredible value and a precious keepsake of your growing baby. Email me at email@example.com for a complete package list.
What days of the week do you schedule these sessions?
I schedule all portrait sessions Monday through Friday. Weekends are available but are very limited during the busy monts of weddings. However, I do reserve one weekend a month for portrait session. Please let me know as early as possible if you’re interested in a weekend date as they fill up fast!
When should I schedule a newborn session?
I like to photograph your newborn within 10 days of birth if possible. While I can take newborn photos up until a month, they begin to lose their newborn look after 2 weeks.
Where will the session be?
I do most newborn sessions in our downtown Flagstaff studio. I can, however, come to your home if you’d prefer for an additional fee.
How long should my newborn session last?
Newborn sessions last a little longer than most portrait sessions, about two hours. I want to give you enough time for you to feed your little one when he/she gets hungry, change the occasional diaper and just have enough time to relax and enjoy the experience.
Is the session just for my baby or can the parents, siblings and our family pet be included?
I will concentrate on your baby for the majority of the session. However, I will also take photos of mom and dad and any siblings with the baby together and individually. And of course, bring the family pet if you’d like. They are family too and always welcome at any of my photography sessions.
What should I bring to my session?
Bring two outfits, at a minimum. If you’re unsure what will look nice in photographs feel free to bring more and I’ll help you put an outfit together. Also, bring any sort of articles that are sentimental to you and you feel would look great in a picture. Some of our clients have brought a quilt that grandma has made, an old basket of their moms, or some letters to spell out the baby’s name. If you’d like our help in brainstorming, please don’t hesitate to call or email. I want your vision of this newborn session to come to life.
When will my photos be ready for viewing?
Your photos will be ready for viewing two weeks after your session. If you live in Flagstaff, we can schedule a studio viewing where the photos are projected (very fun for grandparents!). We also host them online at a personalized gallery for your viewing convenience. In addition, we will make a cinematic slideshow for you to share with friends and family over the internet. This slideshow is optimized for mobile devices and the internet.
