Senior year is such an exciting time, we love photographing these kids and hearing about their plans for the upcoming year and after graduation. This beautiful girl was no exception. Melissa and I recently got the pleasure of photographing Connor, a Flagstaff High School Senior. Connor is so sweet and full of life. She has one of those infectious smiles that makes you want to smile right back at her. We met Connor and her mother downtown for the first part of the shoot and then headed up to Aspen Corner and Snowbowl before sunset. Connor loves the outdoors and said she always wanted to take her senior photo’s in the aspens. Connor we wish you the best of luck, you have a very bright future! Thank you for being so wonderful to work with!! ~Kristen

Samantha and Stephen were married in Aspen, Colorado at The Little Nell’s famous Sun Deck.  I can’t imagine a more spectacular setting for a wedding.  I remember getting off the gondola and simply just starting at the 180 degree view of the Rocky Mountains.  It was spectacular.  There is a reason that this  mountain range inspired many poets and songwriters.  Looking out, I felt so small, and yet, so inspired.  I looked over to see Kristen, and she just nodded in agreement.  There really are no words, so I hope our photos do it justice.

Samantha got ready at the bottom of the mountain, at The Little Nell resort.  Her makeup artist, from Full Circle, had just spend a weekend with Kevin Costner as his personal makeup artist for a documentary he was filming.  Being one of his biggest fans, I was happy to hear he was gracious and endearing.  The pearls you see were hand selected by Samantha’s dad in Hong Kong, as a gift to Samantha’s mother years ago.  I thought it was perfect that Samantha wore them as a way to remember her dear mother.  The gown was a beautiful Romona Keveza, light and sweet, and reflected Samantha’s personality perfectly.  Anne from Anne’s Alterations did some custom work on the gown, and even made her a custom corset, which was gorgeous!

The wedding on the Sun Deck was perfect!  The Rocky Mountains don’t need any decorations at all, so Dana at Glamorous Occasions decided to emphasis the scenery with garden chairs, small hand tied bundles of peonies and stock and a beautiful white runner for the bride to walk upon.   The reception at The Aspen Mountain Club was flocked with gorgeous champagne linen and romantic candles.  We loved her candle tower and the peony centerpieces, so elegant and refined.  At the reception, the bride’s father gave a speech that had us all in tears.  To be surrounded by so much love was pretty overwhelming.  Thank you Samantha and Stephen for choosing us as your photographers.  We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!  ~ Melissa and Kristen

Kristen and Adam are dear to my heart, in so many ways that I hope this blog post will do it justice.  I met Adam in 2003, when he (and his 13 bicycles :)), became my roommate.  It was a strange thing, one day someone asked me if I wanted a roommate, and the next week a complete stanger moved into my house.  Except, Adam was never a stranger.  Do you ever meet someone and you feel like you’ve known them for a 100 years?  Well, Adam is definitely that person to me.  He was the little brother I never had, but always thought was out there.  I remember when I was a little kid, I would ask my mom if I was adopted, over and over.  She finally asked why, and I said I wanted to find my other sibling that I thought was “out there”.  She laughed, but in all honestly, I really did think that.  He and I became best friends quickly and even more quickly, he was family.

When Adam started to date Kristen, I knew even before he did that she was “the One”.  She was spunky, smart and loved to laugh….a lot!  I just adored her and she quickly became my soul sister.  She and I are one of the 4 founders of our invented adult sorority group called “Chippies”, but that’s a whole different story…:)  Now, like all little brothers, Adam really started to annoy me when he didn’t know as quickly as I did that she was the One, but a couple of years later, it hit him like a ton of bricks had just fallen from the sky.  So, I found myself going to the jewelers with my ‘adopted’ little brother, helping him pick out the perfect setting for his mother’s heirloom diamond.

I was so honored when they asked me to do their engagement photos!  We choose this location, a section of the Arizona Trail,  because this is where they fell in love, spending hundreds of hours over the years in the outdoors of Flagstaff riding their mountain bikes and hiking with their dogs, Cindy and Sapphire.  It was a near perfect day and I really think these photos show their adoration perfectly for one another.  As sedona wedding photographers I was so glad to have my good friends at Sierra Blanco Photography (Tina and Angie) photographed their wedding (I was a bridesmaid!!), so check out their wedding photos on their blog.   I really do wish someone had videotaped my speech.  It was one of my best ones ever, and I don’t mind saying so myself.  :)

Congratulations Kristen and Adam!  I am so fortunate to have you both in my life, and I love you both SO much! ~ Melissa

Julee and Ben are getting married next month in Utah, and wanted to squeeze in an engagement session in Flagstaff before their wedding. They chose to have part of the shoot downtown Flagstaff with a urban feel.  The second spot was a more rustic local in the forest on the way to Sedona.  We had a lot of fun finding props and using the ones her parents brought along! What a sweet couple, I absolutely fell in love with them and Julee’s parents that joined us for the session.  Julee’s parents even brought the coolest props like the vintage bench and looked perfect in the woods.  Julee picked out her outfits to perfection and Ben just adored this girl.  Congratulations to you two! ~Melissa and Kristen, Sedona Wedding Photographers, Tangled Lilac

Turning 40 is a huge milestone that used to be grouped with an image of ‘growing old’.  In the past decade, however, I was happy to see the media celebrate the passage of this time as they showed that turning 40 was really about beauty, grace and loving your own body.  Heather, a scottsdale friend, choose to celebrate turning 40 by creating some incredible images at one of of our Boudoir sessions!  And she rocked this session!  Congrats on celebrating YOU Heather, we enjoyed being your boudoir photographers!!
