This mornings feature of Jules and Thomas on Fab You Bliss made us miss New Orleans like crazy! The music, the antiques, and the FOOD, we just fell in love with the entire city! Melissa and I were lucky enough to travel with the couple and photograph their French Quarter wedding at Latobe’s on Royal. Jules and Thomas did a fantastic job of incorporating true New Orleans culture and tradition into their big day. Please take a look at the wonderful feature by Stephanie at Fab You Bliss. ~Kristen
Last month Kristen and I traveled to New Orleans, LA to photograph Jules and Thomas’s wedding. You might remember Jules and Thomas from their engagement session we photographed here in Arizona, where the couple resides. To say we were excited, well, is an understatement. I think we both packed about one week before our flight left because we were so anxious to go! If you’ve never had the chance to visit New Orleans, you should do it. This is a city filled with history, gracious architecture, delectable food, and so much more than the famed Bourbon Street that most people associate with Naw-lins. I think Kristen and I came back 5lbs heavier, much thanks to a unending menu of Po-Boys and charbroiled oysters from the Royal House Restaurant.
We met Jules and her five Maid of Honors (We LOVED that she let them all carry that honor!) at the Omni Royal located in the middle of the French Quarter where they were getting the royal treatment in the penthouse suite from the talented stylists at the Flawless Bride.
Jules choose a fit and flare gown with hundreds of intricate flowers adorning the skirt. The ladies wore all black and got to choose their own gown.
Thomas and his groomsmen got ready a few blocks away on the edge of the French Quarter and Kristen got some great, natural images of them getting their formal wear together.
We choose a sidewalk in the French Quarter for their first meeting that was tucked away from most of the tourists. We simply adore the look on both of their faces as they turned to see one another for the first time!
For the bridal and couple photos, we walked around the French Quarter and found lots of great walls and buildings. I love these photos of Jules! She was a stunning bride!!
New Orleans is known for it’s music, and the street musicians there are very talented. We were able to take a few photos of Thomas and Jules as they were serenaded by this guitarist.
As we walked back towards the ceremony location, we snapped a few photos of them walking down Bourbon Street. I absolutely love this moment caught while they walked away hand in hand.
The bridesmaids and groomsmen were all so much fun! Thanks to each of you!
It’s not everyday we get to photograph an indoor wedding, so we were really looking forward to the Latrobe’s on Royal ceremony location. The candlelight really enhanced the romantic feel.
What was really, really fun was the Second Line Parade! One of my most favorite traditions of all has to be this parade. Simply stated, it represents the beginning of the life between the bride and groom. A brass band leads the couple and guests around the French Quarter while everyone cheers on and dances in the streets. I honestly cannot think of a better way to celebrate the first moments of marriage! Kristen and I had a great time following the parade, and participating in all the fun!
Zoe’s Bakery designed two beautiful cakes for the event. The one on the left is Thomas’s Grooms Cake, a Southern tradition that I’ve missed seeing. Traditionally, this is a gift from the Bride to the Groom and is decorated to reflect a particular hobby or interest to the groom. This one reflected Thomas’s love of NOLA. And, both cakes were as delicious as beautiful!
The evening was filled with lively sounds from the Ron Jones Band. They had everyone dancing all night long! Also, a dear friend of Jules and Thomas, surprised the couple by singing “At Last” for them, and she was phenomenal! I think Ron Jones wanted to be her agent after that performance! 🙂 When the time finally came to end the evening, the couple escaped via a tunnel of sparklers to their get-a-way bicycle taxi!
Congratulations to Jules and Thomas! Thank you so much for having us there for your wedding. We loved every minute of it! ~ Melissa
