After this weeks snowy start we were blessed with a gorgeous day yesterday! Melissa & I spent our afternoon on the Northern Arizona University campus photographing  college senior Kati for her upcoming graduation.   She was such a doll and dealt with the mud and melting snow so well.  Here are a few of my favorite photos so far, what a great smile!

Samantha and Stephen were married in Aspen, Colorado at The Little Nell’s famous Sun Deck.  I can’t imagine a more spectacular setting for a wedding.  I remember getting off the gondola and simply just starting at the 180 degree view of the Rocky Mountains.  It was spectacular.  There is a reason that this  mountain range inspired many poets and songwriters.  Looking out, I felt so small, and yet, so inspired.  I looked over to see Kristen, and she just nodded in agreement.  There really are no words, so I hope our photos do it justice.

Samantha got ready at the bottom of the mountain, at The Little Nell resort.  Her makeup artist, from Full Circle, had just spend a weekend with Kevin Costner as his personal makeup artist for a documentary he was filming.  Being one of his biggest fans, I was happy to hear he was gracious and endearing.  The pearls you see were hand selected by Samantha’s dad in Hong Kong, as a gift to Samantha’s mother years ago.  I thought it was perfect that Samantha wore them as a way to remember her dear mother.  The gown was a beautiful Romona Keveza, light and sweet, and reflected Samantha’s personality perfectly.  Anne from Anne’s Alterations did some custom work on the gown, and even made her a custom corset, which was gorgeous!

The wedding on the Sun Deck was perfect!  The Rocky Mountains don’t need any decorations at all, so Dana at Glamorous Occasions decided to emphasis the scenery with garden chairs, small hand tied bundles of peonies and stock and a beautiful white runner for the bride to walk upon.   The reception at The Aspen Mountain Club was flocked with gorgeous champagne linen and romantic candles.  We loved her candle tower and the peony centerpieces, so elegant and refined.  At the reception, the bride’s father gave a speech that had us all in tears.  To be surrounded by so much love was pretty overwhelming.  Thank you Samantha and Stephen for choosing us as your photographers.  We wish you a lifetime of love and happiness!  ~ Melissa and Kristen

Last year we had the pleasure of photographing  Angelica & Scott’s beautiful winter wedding at Tlaquepaque  in Sedona.  When we got the phone call that this adorable couple needed to book a photo session to show off their new addition were elated! We met the Cary family downtown Phoenix and had the best time getting to know little Isabella, what a cutie!  Scott is such a proud father and Angelica is an adoring mother.    We loved the downtown Phoenix area for this family session.  The area has lots of colorful buildings and beautiful little parks.  A perfect fit for this sweet families first family portrait!  We can’t wait to see Isabella grow! ~Melissa and Kristen

Kristen and Adam are dear to my heart, in so many ways that I hope this blog post will do it justice.  I met Adam in 2003, when he (and his 13 bicycles :)), became my roommate.  It was a strange thing, one day someone asked me if I wanted a roommate, and the next week a complete stanger moved into my house.  Except, Adam was never a stranger.  Do you ever meet someone and you feel like you’ve known them for a 100 years?  Well, Adam is definitely that person to me.  He was the little brother I never had, but always thought was out there.  I remember when I was a little kid, I would ask my mom if I was adopted, over and over.  She finally asked why, and I said I wanted to find my other sibling that I thought was “out there”.  She laughed, but in all honestly, I really did think that.  He and I became best friends quickly and even more quickly, he was family.

When Adam started to date Kristen, I knew even before he did that she was “the One”.  She was spunky, smart and loved to laugh….a lot!  I just adored her and she quickly became my soul sister.  She and I are one of the 4 founders of our invented adult sorority group called “Chippies”, but that’s a whole different story…:)  Now, like all little brothers, Adam really started to annoy me when he didn’t know as quickly as I did that she was the One, but a couple of years later, it hit him like a ton of bricks had just fallen from the sky.  So, I found myself going to the jewelers with my ‘adopted’ little brother, helping him pick out the perfect setting for his mother’s heirloom diamond.

I was so honored when they asked me to do their engagement photos!  We choose this location, a section of the Arizona Trail,  because this is where they fell in love, spending hundreds of hours over the years in the outdoors of Flagstaff riding their mountain bikes and hiking with their dogs, Cindy and Sapphire.  It was a near perfect day and I really think these photos show their adoration perfectly for one another.  As sedona wedding photographers I was so glad to have my good friends at Sierra Blanco Photography (Tina and Angie) photographed their wedding (I was a bridesmaid!!), so check out their wedding photos on their blog.   I really do wish someone had videotaped my speech.  It was one of my best ones ever, and I don’t mind saying so myself.  🙂

Congratulations Kristen and Adam!  I am so fortunate to have you both in my life, and I love you both SO much! ~ Melissa

Imagine your husband opening a beautiful book, with artistic and sexy photos of you, made especially for him, on your anniversary!  We recently had a boudoir session just for that and we added a special twist.  The wife scheduled a private, projected slideshow viewing for her husband at our studio!  She told him we were going to discuss a future family session and wanted to talk about location and clothing choices.  So, he showed up, and was greeted by his beautiful wife with a bottle of champagne.  We giggled as we told him she had a present for him and then gave him a comfortable seat and loaded the show!  Five minutes later, he jumped up and gave his wife the biggest hug and kiss I’ve ever yet to see.  THEN, when presented with his 5×5 keepsake book, he cried.  Yes, cried.  When they left soon after, he gave us a huge hug too and thanked us for the best anniversary present ever!  Now THAT’S a compliment!  Congrats on your 15th Anniversary! We love being Scottsdale and Sedona boudoir photographers,  helping woman celebrate themselves.   ~ Melissa and Kristen

Meet Tracy, Greg and little Angus.  It’s hard to believe that I’ve known Angus since he was only a few days old and now he’s almost four!  I remember Tracy bringing him to a SafeKids Coalition meeting, where we both were volunteers, and how he wrapped his two week old newborn finger around mine.  That moment I’ll never forget.  Where does the time go?   You might recognize Greg if you’re a runner.  He’s the genius behind McMillan Elite, a non-profit Olympic development running team based in Flagstaff, Arizona.  Kristen and I were fortunate enough to photograph most of their runners for a fun project called “We are Athletes and More“.  It was truly amazing to get to spend time with people chasing their Olympic dream.  But, back to this family session!    The McMillans chose West Fork Trail in Oak Creek Canyon for their family session, and we love the versatility of this place.  It has beautiful trees, rock formations, bridges and streams, pretty much a photographer’s dream!  It was a bit muddy, but as you can tell from the photos below, Angus preferred it that way!

We’ve always said, that we enter a photo session with clients, but leave with friends, and this family is no exception.  My husband and I now regularly enjoy evenings and outings with this wonderful family, and for the last two years, we’ve even spent Christmas day with them!  It’s truly a blessing to get to know families as they grow, I love my job so much!
