I’ve been waiting a long time to meet this little angel, about five years.
You see, the moment when TC and Carrie started dating, we all knew they’d get married, and we all hoped they’d one day have a baby. So, I was thrilled when they announced to Grant and I this past winter that they were expecting. And, I was over the moon when I found out it was a little girl!
I did a lot of thinking about what I’d say to her when I met little Miss Maggie, but as I expected, when I did have the chance to hold her in my arms I forgot everything. In fact, the love that filled my heart at the very moment seemed SO big that it seemed to consume the whole world.
So I wrote down a few very important things.
I’m your Aunt Melissa. And no, we’re not related by blood, but I’ve found out over the years that families transcend the traditional boundaries. And I love you just as much as family.
I promise to sing you John Denver songs when you’re crying. I suspect that my off key voice will stop you and make you wonder what on earth could create such a sound and John Denver lyrics, let’s face it, are some of the sweetest, loving and hopeful words ever. It’s my secret weapon for crying babies.
I promise to buy you ice cream on your first day of school for the rest of your life. As a matter of fact, I promise to buy you ice cream anytime you want it. And, I’ll even take you out of school occasionally so we can do this (shhhh…don’t tell your parents!). Some of my best memories are sitting at over a bowl of ice cream and telling my sister and mom the happenings of my day. I hope we can have some of those special moments too.
I promise to share with you some of my treasured secrets: my mom’s recipe for chocolate chip-pecan-oatmeal cookies, how to call in chickadees to your bird feeder, and how to say “Go Dawgs” at just the right time to make your Mom and Dad laugh.
I promise to support you in whatever brings you joy and happiness. Especially if it includes going to the University of Georgia. 🙂
I promise to let you cry on my shoulder when a someone breaks your heart. And I promise that you’ll find your perfect someone one day, and I’ll remind you of this in your dating years.
I promise to tell you funny and sweet stories about your Mom and Dad, how they met and fell in love. I’ll also tell you about how they were so happy when they learned about you. I’ll also tell you of how they both cried the day they met you; they thought you were the sweetest and most beautiful thing they had ever seen. And, they were right.
Welcome to the world my sweet girl, I can hardly wait for the days to come!
With love always ~ “Auntie” Melissa
One of my favorite parts of being a Flagstaff Photographer is that many of my clients I can also call friends. Erin and I met 15 years ago when I moved to Flagstaff to attend Northern Arizona University. We were young eighteen year old kids starting our college careers. Erin is that friend that would do any thing for you and was always the mother hen of our group. When we were in college she would make dinner for us girls so that we had a good meal before we went out on the town. Erin has so many wonderful qualities, I know she will be a fabulous nurturing mother! I feel so blessed that I get to be a part of this new chapter in Erin’s life.
Erin and I had discussed doing her maternity session in Tucson before her baby shower. Unfortunately it poured rain all day so we scrapped the outdoor session and had a relaxed shoot in her hotel room. The room had wonderful floor to ceiling windows which allowed for some beautiful filtered light. Erin and her husband Clint wanted a simple shoot that celebrated this special time in their lives. Isn’t she a stunning pregnant lady!?
Clint cuddled up with Erin and baby Jack for a few photos. Clint is so sweet to Erin, he really takes care of her and is so excited to be a dad.
Congratulations to my amazing friends! I wish you all the happiness in the world and can not wait to meet baby Jack! xoxo ~Kristen
After photographing the Hutchins family for Kim’s maternity session we had been anxiously awaiting a call to come meet their new addition. The Hutchins welcomed healthy baby Hosea into the world on May 20, 2012. About a week later, we arrived at their Flagstaff home to meet the sweetest good natured baby. Hosea didn’t even cry until the last ten minutes of the photography session. It has been such a treat to participate in the welcoming of both the Hutchins children. Melissa and I can not wait to watch Diego and Hosea grow! ~Kristen
We first met Kim and Micheal about two years ago when they came to us for maternity photos for their first child. When we got the call they were expecting number two we were ecstatic! Kim and Michael are such a sweet couple and Michael keeps everyone laughing. Little Diego is just a cutie pie that will make a fantastic big brother! Kim, we wish you the best with the rest of your pregnancy and can’t wait to meet your new addition. ~Kristen & Melissa

Last year we had the pleasure of photographing Angelica & Scott’s beautiful winter wedding at Tlaquepaque in Sedona. When we got the phone call that this adorable couple needed to book a photo session to show off their new addition were elated! We met the Cary family downtown Phoenix and had the best time getting to know little Isabella, what a cutie! Scott is such a proud father and Angelica is an adoring mother. We loved the downtown Phoenix area for this family session. The area has lots of colorful buildings and beautiful little parks. A perfect fit for this sweet families first family portrait! We can’t wait to see Isabella grow! ~Melissa and Kristen
