The Casey family wanted to come to beautiful Sedona, Arizona for their annual family photos and who could blame them? The red rocks, beautiful vistas, and the gorgeous sunsets are unrivaled in the Southwest. I love shooting in Sedona because at every turn there’s something that will take your breath away. There are many reasons why so many people make the pilgrimage to Sedona…from acclaimed vortexes to the healing waters and sounds of Oak Creek to the peace you get when you find a trail all to yourself. If you’ve never been, make the trip!
Jessica and Gerry are expecting their second baby in December and big brother, Elvis the Bernese mountain dog, and big sister, Delaney are very excited! I loved the custom signs for Delaney and Elvis! But mostly, I adored how much this family loved one another. There’s nothing quite like being able to observe a close family and how they make each other laugh and smile. The Casey family were adventurous and wanted to go to the summit of the Sugarloaf trail and Jessica hiked it like a pro! The views were definitely worth the effort!
It was great meeting each of you! Thank you for coming to Sedona! xoxo ~ Melissa
Jennifer got the news that all of us with furry family members dread to hear…her beloved Oswald only has a few weeks to live. Oswald has been with Jennifer all over the world, and even enjoyed living in Germany for a while with she and her husband. He was there when they found his doggie siblings, Macy and Panda Bear, and there when they adopted their adorable little human child, Ava. For a soul that has shared so much, it’s hard to even think of saying goodbye. But therein lies the only fault with our animal friends, they have such short lives. But their time with us brings us so much happiness, so much unconditional love, so it’s the price we pay to have them by our side, if only briefly.
I was so happy that Jennifer reached out to get these photos of Oswald. I know that in the future, these images will provide some tears and loving memories of the spirit who first captured her heart.
I hope your final days are filled with love, belly rubs and all the bacon you can eat sweet boy. After spending only a couple of hours with you, I can see why your family adores you so much. Truly, when you do go to heaven, you will add one of the brightest stars in the sky. Much love ~ Melissa
Jessie the Golden Retreiver first came to us because she needed some photos for the Dog Actors Guild website. Yes, there is such a thing! She was only 9 months old then and when her mom, Lori, told me that Jessie just turned two I couldn’t believe it! It seems the older I get, the faster time slips by. Jessie is still the sweet puppy that I’ve always known. I love it when I see her, she gets SO excited that she starts to run towards me, but she doesn’t know she’s on a leash. Her legs just go a hundred miles a minute and it’s like she’s a sports car reving up for the start line! It’s so adorable, I wish I had a video of that. Happy birthday my sweet puppy, next time I’ll make you a bacon cake! 🙂 ~ xoxo, Melissa
Meet the adorable Mark family, Melissa, Tyler, little Nolan and Harry the Boxer. This session was a gift to the family from Tyler’s mom and we timed the session to coincide with the spectacular display of sunflowers we get annually in Flagstaff. Melissa and Tyler are just amazing with little Nolan, and by the end of the session that little boy had stolen our hearts. I mean really, have you ever seen such a cutie pie? Nolen adored his 4-legged brother, Frank and squealed with delight when Frank would come close. And judging by the amount of doggie kisses Frank delivered, I know the feeling is mutual. We had a great time playing in the flowers. Thank you so much for spending time with us! ~ Melissa
I look forward to the first of every month for one reason, our Adorable Adoptable of the Month campaign. Each month, we partner with an animal rescue organization and volunteer our pet photography services to some special animal who needs a home. Over the past few months, we’ve met some amazing dogs and I’ve fallen in love with each and every one. This month, our sweet dog comes from Golden Bone Rescue and Rehab based out of Sedona, Arizona. Josie is a Golden Retriever/Beagle mix and is young, probably under two years old. She is a medium dog of about 40 pounds. During her photo session with us, Josie was timid (probably wondering what all the fuss was about!) but warmed up to us in just a few minutes. Despite the activity around her, she never barked or even made one sound. At first, Josie didn’t want anything to do with photographs, but then I explained to her that getting some great photos of her would help her find her perfect family. To my surprise, this sweet girl walked over to the rug, and posed perfectly until it was time for her to go. Shannon, her foster mom, says that Josie has a sweet temperament and loves to be petted. And, despite an old broken leg injury that was never treated by her previous owners, Josie loves to go on walks and spend time outside. Because of that old injury, she sits a little crooked, but that, in my opinion, only makes her more beautiful.
If you, or someone you know, might be interested in Josie, please check out the Golden Bone Rescue Rehab website or Josie’s Petfinder profile here. And, please share on Twitter and Facebook to help us spread the word about this loving dog.
Thanks for helping us find every homeless animal a forever home. Blessings to you and your family ~ Melissa
Just before Sasha left for Stanford for his second year, Kristen and I got to do a family session for this sweet family. Just last month, we were blessed that Maya called us to photograph her aging pup, Tristan. And, from there, photography projects and ideas grew. Maya, who owns Optimal Health and Aesthetics , is the mom to two awesome boys. Sasha is in his second year at Stanford and is studying Physics. It was really fun to pick his brain about the latest science and discoveries. So smart, charismatic and outgoing, he’s going to have such a great future in anything he chooses. Max is a student at Flagstaff Arts and Leadership and, among other strengths, interests and academic accomplishments, is fascinated with photography. Seriously…science and photography? These two should have been my kids 🙂
We had a lot of fun with this trio. Maya adores her boys, and who could blame her? We’ve been around Maya a few times now for various photo sessions and she’s one of those that you can really feel the love radiate from her. And, when she’s around her boys, it was just much more amplified. I know she feels so blessed to have been their mother, and it’s that appreciation for life and love that make her so lovable by all that meet her.
Thank you Maya, for giving us the opportunity to photograph you and your family. It’s so amazing to have this job and be able to document the growth of kids, the love of family and the ties that bind us all together. Blessing to you ~ Melissa
