Jennifer got the news that all of us with furry family members dread to hear…her beloved Oswald only has a few weeks to live. Oswald has been with Jennifer all over the world, and even enjoyed living in Germany for a while with she and her husband. He was there when they found his doggie siblings, Macy and Panda Bear, and there when they adopted their adorable little human child, Ava. For a soul that has shared so much, it’s hard to even think of saying goodbye. But therein lies the only fault with our animal friends, they have such short lives. But their time with us brings us so much happiness, so much unconditional love, so it’s the price we pay to have them by our side, if only briefly.
I was so happy that Jennifer reached out to get these photos of Oswald. I know that in the future, these images will provide some tears and loving memories of the spirit who first captured her heart.
I hope your final days are filled with love, belly rubs and all the bacon you can eat sweet boy. After spending only a couple of hours with you, I can see why your family adores you so much. Truly, when you do go to heaven, you will add one of the brightest stars in the sky. Much love ~ Melissa
It is always a true delight every year to photograph the Brown Family. As a photographer, it is so fun to see and capture how much the kids change and grow over just one year! This year we added Derrick’s parents and sisters family to the session so we could get a large family photo. The Brown’s timed the beautiful yellow wildflowers and sunflowers just right! As you can see this session was blessed with an explosion of color! Thank you to the Brown and McChesney’s for having fun with us in the sunflower field! ~Kristen
In the time between the harsh early summer winds, and the aspen changing colors, lies the sweet spot of Northern Arizona’s weather that we call monsoon season. Each year I hold my breath as the sunflowers seem to climb out of the earth and burst into a brilliant display. It has to be one of the most miraculous displays of flowers anywhere in the world. The day that I met this sweet family we were also blessed with big, billowy, monsoon clouds that provided creamy ambient filtered light. It was perfection. Brittany and Matt moved to Northern Arizona about a year ago, and this was the first time they had seen the sunflower fields. It was cool to see their reaction when I drove them up to this beautiful location.
Baby William was perfect and seemed to enjoy his first experience as a super model, both inside in a studio setting and outside in the great wide open. He never cried and fell fast asleep once he got comfortable. Congratulations Brittany and Matt! Your beautiful baby boy is a sweetheart! ~ Melissa

Right now in Flagstaff the fields are covered with sunflowers. And, I really, really emphasize the word ‘covered’. This is one of my favorite times of the year for photographs, and we’ve definitely been taking advantage of natures beauty. Kat, and her husband, Rob, little Lily and handsome puppy, Sampson, recently joined us in one of our favorite spots to have us capture their family during this spectacular flowering event. Can you believe just how unbelievably cute little Lily is? Oh, I could look at that little grin all day! We were blessed with monsoon clouds, but, unfortunately, covered with mosquito bites when we all returned home. But, I think the photos that we got for the Ross family is worth the blood lost to the bugs 🙂 Kat and Rob, thank you so much for the honor of photographing your family. We hope these photos will bring back great memories in the years to come! ~ Melissa
I met Derrick in 1999 (although he probably doesn’t remember it) when he was a semi-professional mountain bike rider at a race in Prescott, AZ. I had just gotten a new camera, and went to test it out during a race. All I remember about him then was that he was too fast for me to get a good shot! Fast forward about 6 years and I found myself in his house for a BBQ where I had been invited by mutual friends. (This mutual friend would later become my husband, Grant :)) During this visit, I met Tamara. At that time, I didn’t know Tamara at all, but I could tell from the sidelines that this girl would become his wife one day. She was sweet, genuine and loved Derrick to the moon and back. Plus, both of us are misplaced Southerners, so we struck an immediate bond. And, sure enough, in 2006, Tamara and Derrick were married in a tropical paradise in Costa Rica. In 2007, Derrick was one of my husband’s groomsmen and someone my husband still calls his “BFF” to this day. Over the years, I’ve seen their bond grow as husband and wife, and watched as their family of two grew to four with the birth of their adorable children, Kiley and Alec. For the past two years, I’ve been blessed to take their family photographs, something I will never take for granted. Seeing them interact as a family is something that always makes me smile, laugh, giggle and realize just how amazing it must be to become a parent. I hope you enjoy these photos of some of our best friends, and family of our hearts 🙂 ~Melissa Sedona Wedding and Flagstaff Family Photographers, Tangled Lilac Photography
